The Pianoette is simply a
block of wood with the piano keyboard painted
on one side and filled with strings which are bowed
with a small bow, up
and down the keyboard. This instrument was popular
during the depression
years in the Ozarks. Men would come through
the country selling these
instruments for $28.50, which was a lot of money during
the depression and
not many farmers could afford it. It was usually
played across the lap or
on a table.
